Car crash costs highest in France and Germany
Motorists travelling to the continent this summer are being urged to drive carefully as a car crash abroad could prove expensive.
Germany and France are the most expensive countries in Europe for a road accident.
Drivers who cause a crash in Germany will pay out an average of £2,940, over 50% more than the European average.
The French, meanwhile, are notorious for their personal injury claims; average claims for personal injuries caused by a car accident in France are £9,510, the highest in Europe.
Aviva, who released the figures, warned that British motorists should be “extra careful” when driving in Europe, and should contact their insurer before they set off to make sure they’re covered for driving overseas.
“Otherwise you may have to pay for any claims for damage to your car, whether it’s your fault or not,” said Nigel Bartram, Aviva UK’s insurance motor underwriting manager.
The driver and passengers of cars that break down on motorways in France, Austria, Belgium, Italy and Norway must wear visibility vests when they leave the vehicle.
